The Democratic Party has transformed.
The far left is in charge, and it shows. As a former Democrat, it's disappointing to see what they have become. If you think your representative should be looking for ways to improve your quality of life, you'll have to look beyond the Democratic Party. Their concern is radical social change at the expense of the residents of NYC. Moms and little kids are harassed by the severely mentally ill on the way to school. The elderly are afraid to take walks. Small businesses suffer and personal safety continues to be a major concern. This is why I will be running as a Republican. We all need to come together and make a new and critical stand against the unhealthy mentality embedded in our current leadership .
Meanwhile, our councilman's main concern is stripping a landlord of the ability to conduct criminal background checks on potential tenants. Do you want former criminals (murderers, arsonists, embezzlers, con artists, violent offenders) as your neighbors. If you have kids, do you want a person with a rap sheet living just down the hall? Who asked for this? Who is he representing? Unless you are part of the .0003% of people living in the UES who think this bill ought to be your councilman's main priority, then certainly not you. The rights of citizens are secondary to the rights of criminals.
This is what we have come to expect from Democrats in NYC. Parties evolve, and I've happily switched mine. As your city councilman, I am laser focused on 3 issues:
Public Safety
Education
Homelessness
Nobody is oblivious to the damage that has been done to this city by politicians the past few years. It is time for a profound re-analysis of what matters most to us. For me, it's the safety and well being of the people. Its livability for families and ensuring our tax dollars are spent in service of our own interests. This is not about party. It's about the future of this once great city.
We have an opportunity to turn this around. Let's do this together!
